Meet Chef Majid
For Chef Majid Mayahi, Slick Chicken represents the next chapter of a culinary journey shaped by different cities, countries, cultures, and cuisines.
His culinary career began in Montreal, Canada, a city whose incredible food culture and European influence left a lasting impression on him.
From Montreal, his journey took him to Dubai, then to Orange County, California, and eventually to San Diego.
Chef-Driven Kitchen
Each destination influenced the way Majid thinks about food.
Montreal exposed him to a diverse culinary culture with a strong European character. Dubai introduced him to an international world of flavors, spices, and hospitality. Southern California brought another perspective—fresh ingredients, an active lifestyle, and approachable food.
Eventually, that journey brought Majid to San Diego.
After moving here, Majid became Executive Chef at Leila, helping lead the culinary program from the restaurant’s opening and serving as Executive Chef for approximately two years.
But during his time here, something else happened.

Slick Chicken is his first restaurant of his own, in the city he chose to call home — with a little taste of Montreal still on the menu.
Majid Fell in Love With San Diego.
This was home.
Majid lives in Little Italy, and walking through the neighborhood gives him a feeling he hadn’t experienced since Montreal.
The sidewalk cafés. The restaurants. The markets. People walking everywhere. The energy of the streets. The ability to leave home without always getting into a car.
To Majid, Little Italy has an almost European feeling, and in many ways it reminds him of the lifestyle he loved in Montreal.
He can walk from his home to a café, restaurant, market, the waterfront, or simply spend an afternoon walking through the neighborhood.
Little Italy gave Majid a little piece of Montreal in San Diego.
After three years of living in San Diego, he realized this wasn’t simply another stop in his culinary career.
When Majid decided it was finally time to pursue his dream of opening his first restaurant, he knew he wanted to do it here.
